Product Description
The Baobab, dubbed upside down tree by the Bushmen because during winter the bare branches resemble a tangle of roots, has captured my imagination ever since I saw photographs of my parents with one of these giants of the African plains. Size and longevity place them in a class of their own, the oldest tree recorded is believed to have existed for more than 1700 years. Man seems small and insignificant against this iconic tree, after my visit to the Big Tree in the Knysna Forest I resolved to portray this essence in a relief sculpture.
